Austin Carr claimed off waivers by the New Orleans Saints

From Tom Brady to Drew Brees. Not bad.

Austin Carr was not out of a job for long. After getting cut from the Patriots 53-man roster, the former Northwestern wide receiver and undrafted free agent was claimed by the New Orleans Saints.

Carr had an stellar preseason showing with the Patriots, catching 14 balls for 153 yards and 2 touchdowns. However, the Patriots just didn’t have enough room for him on the roster, even with a season-ending injury to Julian Edelman.

However, Carr is going to another good offensive situation in New Orleans, who are relatively thin at wide receiver after trading away Brandin Cooks. Of course, with Drew Brees manning the helm, Carr will have another Hall of Fame quarterback to work with. The Saints are going into the season with Michael Thomas, Ted Ginn Jr., Brandon Coleman, and Willie Snead on their depth chart. Snead has been suspended for three games with a DUI, leaving the likes of TommyLee Lewis and Jake Lampman also hanging around.

Carr will join former Northwestern offensive lineman Zach Strief in New Orleans. In other ex-Northwestern player news, fullback Dan Vitale survived cut day for the Cleveland Browns and is still on the roster.
