Injury Update: Marcus McShepard is OUT

Listed as questionable, McShepard will not go today.

@NUFBFamily

Although he was listed as questionable on the Week 2 depth chart, No. 2 cornerback Marcus McShepard will NOT be playing in today’s game at Duke. He did not make the trip to Durham. McShepard joins a host of cornerbacks on the shelf, including Brian Bullock, Alonzo Mayo, Roderick Campbell and Trae Williams. Also in the secondary, Parrker Westphal remains out.

So what’s next for Mike Hankwitz and his depleted secondary?

Moe Almasri filled in last Saturday, which we have well-documented, and he figures to see plenty of playing time today. Kyle Queiro has tremendous athleticism and played a lot of SAM linebacker against Nevada with Jared McGee filling his safety position. We could see that same concept except with the versatile Queiro at cornerback, which is our best guess. Perhaps McGee could slide to corner where he played some at the nickel position last season.

Of course this is all speculative and Northwestern will certainly adjust its scheme as the game goes on. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Hankwitz rotate his No. 2 corner, but you won’t see McShepard or any of the aforementioned injured players out there.
