Northwestern released its Week 8 injury report for its matchup against Rutgers, and there are five inclusions:
- Linebacker Nathan Fox — OUT
- Linebacker Nate Hall — OUT
- Kicker Charlie Kuhbander — OUT
- Cornerback Greg Newsome II — OUT
- Running back Solomon Vault — OUT
Fox, Hall, Kuhbander and Newsome all missed last week’s game against Nebraska, so Vault is the newcomer to the list. It’s unclear what kind of injury he has, and whether he sustained it in the Nebraska game or during practice this week. Vault missed all of last season and the beginning of this season with a leg injury.
Northwestern struggled to defend the run against the Cornhuskers without Hall, but Rutgers shouldn’t be as steep of a challenge this week. Kuhbander will miss his second straight game, so last week’s hero Drew Luckenbaugh will get another go as the starter this week (he was listed as the starter on the depth chart anyway).
Newsome got hurt during the Michigan game, and hasn’t played since. The severity of all the injuries is unclear because, well, Northwestern doesn’t release that (nor do they have to. They also don’t have to release any injury report at all).
