One day after clinching the Big Ten West title, Northwestern picked up its first 2020 football recruit as quarterback Aidan Atkinson announced his commitment to the Wildcats on Sunday. The Wildcats don’t have an official 2019 quarterback recruit (besides Hunter Johnson, of course) but Pat Fitzgerald snagged a 2020 QB commit right off the bat.

Atkinson is a three-star recruit from Boulder, Colo., and he’s ranked as the fifth-best recruit in the Colorado and the 16th-best pro-style quarterback in the class of 2020, per 247Sports.com.
He put up some monster stats as a junior, tossing 55 touchdowns to only seven interceptions in 10 games. He also threw for nearly 4,000 yards.
Atkinson had offers from Ole Miss, Colorado and South Carolina. NU offered the 6-foot-3, 195-pounder on Sept. 16. He took an unofficial visit to NU a week later when the Wildcats took on Michigan.
Here’s a look at some of Atkinson’s highlights from 2017, when he threw for over 3,400 yards and was picked off four times in 331 attempts.
