For the first time since March 2017, Northwestern will play a basketball game at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The $110 million renovation that forced the team to play its 2017-2018 season at Allstate Arena is complete, and the exhibition against McKendree — a Division II program — is the first time the public will have access to the new arena, and it’s a sell-out. We’ll have a bunch of photos from the media tour before the exhibition.
The game doesn’t count, but this isn’t about the game, it’s about the re-opening of Welsh-Ryan.
For students who haven’t been to Welsh-Ryan (which is half of NU’s undergrads), the Arena is located immediately north of Ryan Field. Tickets are free, there are shuttles to the game from campus and there are free shirts for students at this game. There’s also a new loyalty program this year for attendance.
