With less than a week until the National Early Signing Day on Dec. 19, Northwestern snagged its 17th commitment of the 2019 recruiting class in safety Brandon Joseph, who announced his pledge to the Wildcats Saturday afternoon on Twitter. A three-star safety prospect, Joseph hails from College Station, Texas. He is NU’s fifth 2019 commit from the Lone Star State.

Joseph committed to Texas Tech back in July, but announced his decommitment from the Red Raiders on Dec. 8. The program announced head coach Kliff Kingsbury would not be retained on Nov. 25. Joseph also had offers from Arizona, Purdue, and Utah, among others. Notably, some of his first offers came from Ivy League programs like Harvard, Dartmouth, and Cornell, which ostensibly points to Joseph’s academic pedigree.
Joseph is the second safety commit in NU’s 2019 class, joining fellow Texan Corien Azema. Here’s a look at some of Joseph’s highlights. You can see him at safety, but he also makes a bunch of plays on special teams.
Joseph indicated he plans to sign with Northwestern on Dec. 19.
