Background
Gordon made his pledge to the Wildcats nearly a year ago, becoming NU’s third commitment after Bryce Gallagher and Cale Millen (who later decommitted). He picked up offers from LSU and Louisville after his commitment to NU, but the Texan kept his pledge to the ‘Cats. Offers from Columbia, Duke, and Harvard point to Gordon’s academic pedigree.
Gordon dominates the middle third of the field in his highlight tape. At 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, his size is comparable to guys like Trey Pugh and Charlie Mangieri. His straight line speed doesn’t pop off the screen, but Gordon appears to use his body well to position himself for catches and he runs through several smaller defenders as well. And, if all those pancake blocks are an indication, Gordon is an adept blocker too. Here’s a look at his junior year highlights:
Outlook
Northwestern’s only loss at superback is blocking extraordinaire James Prather. Cam Green figures to reprise his role as NU’s starter, with Trey Pugh and Charlie Mangieri (who played in 12 games as a freshman) in back-up duty. Given Gordon’s size, we could see him used as a blocker in short yardage situations, but Eric Eshoo, Cody Link, and even redshirt freshman Brian Kaiser have more experience than Gordon. Regardless, the Texan looks like an excellent mix of strength and ball-skills, who will continue to develop during his time in Evanston.
