Background

Dennis Jr. committed back in June, as the second wide receiver to commit to Northwestern at the time and the class of 2019’s only commit out of Florida. Dennis chose Northwestern over other mid-majors such as Air Force, Army and Navy. He committed four days after taking his official visit, the weekend of June 15th.

At 6-foot-4, Dennis provides a size that is contrary to most Northwestern receivers — and with the transfer of Charlie Fessler, Northwestern could use some size at receiver. Normally, Northwestern recruits smaller and quicker recruits but Dennis Jr. breaks from this trend to help out the receiving corps. His HUDL tape shows that he is a good blocker and is talented at catching balls in traffic.

Outlook

Wayne Dennis Jr.’s presence will be welcome in the receiver corps. However, Dennis Jr. is joined in the class of 2019 by fellow wide receivers Bryce Kirtz and Genson Hooper-Price, who he’ll compete with among others. Northwestern tries to play a lot of wide receivers, but Dennis Jr. should be more of a product for the future. The fact Northwestern lost Charlie Fessler should give some room for the Armwood High School product to potentially get some playing time, making use of his height.
