Background

Mitchell is one of three in-state commits for Northwestern. While Northwestern was his only Power Five offer, Minnesota and Wisconsin were pursuing him. In March, Mitchell became the fifth commit of the Northwestern class.

He is adept in pass defense situations, but also excels in run defense and tackling in the open field. Mitchell displayed his explosiveness as a punt returner in his sophomore season. Notice his quick acceleration and agility in the highlights below.

Outlook

Mitchell will enter a position group that is losing its finest asset, but one that is still full of experience. Trae Williams and Greg Newsome will likely be the frontrunners in the position entering camp, but Cam Ruiz also burst onto the scene this past season; after making big plays in multiple games this past season, he’ll be vying for a larger role on the team next season.

It’ll be tough for Mitchell to find time in this group during his freshman year, but with two corners in this upcoming senior class, it won’t be long before he has a chance to prove himself on the field.
