Northwestern offensive line coach Adam Cushing will bring several NU assistants to Eastern Illinois when he becomes the EIU head coach January 2, according to the Chicago Tribune’s Teddy Greenstein.

The following assistants are reportedly leaving Northwestern:

  • Northwestern director of player personnel Chris Bowers will become the defensive coordinator at EIU.
  • Graduate assistant Deonte Gibson, an all-Big Ten defensive end at NU, will become the defensive line coach at EIU.
  • Joe Orozco, a strength and conditioning coach for NU, is reportedly high on Cushing’s list.

Of the losses, Bowers is the biggest. Bowers does so much behind the scenes in recruiting, including scouting recruits, conducting visits and organizing much of the recruiting operations. He has a board in his office that includes the names of all the players Northwestern has offered scholarships to.
