Northwestern tennis defeats Buffalo 4-0, heads to second round of NCAA Tournament

The Wildcats will face Kansas State Saturday for a chance to advance to the Round of 16.

Northwestern rolled to an easy win in its first round NCAA tournament matchup with Buffalo, defeating the Bulls 4-0 Friday afternoon in Evanston.

After the Wildcats earned the doubles point, Erin Larner, Lee Or, and Rheeya Doshi won each of their respective singles matches to seal the victory.

Larner and Maddie Lipp —who we profiled along with Alex Chatt— easily defeated Chantal Blanco and Lolade Ogungbesan 6-0 in the no. 1 doubles slot, while Doshi and Julie Byrne didn’t drop a game in a no. 3 doubles win over Mercedes Rubio and Sanjana Sudhir.

In singles action, Doshi dominated Arianna Aldrey 6-1, 6-1, before Or earned the no. 2 singles point with a 6-0, 6-3 win. Finally, Larner defeated Blanco in the no. 1 singles matchup for the clincher.

Northwestern will face Kansas State tomorrow at noon. Kansas State defeated Kentucky 4-3 earlier Friday afternoon.
