It’s kind of a dead point in the summer as far as real football news goes, but Pat Fitzgerald is staying hot on the recruiting trail, with his most recent coup being 6-foot-4 wide receiver Wayne Dennis Jr. out of Tampa, Florida. Dennis took an official visit June 15 before announcing his commitment on Twitter Tuesday morning.

Dennis holds a host of mid-major offers, including Navy and Air Force, according to Rivals. He is not rated by 247Sports or Rivals. Dennis joins highly-rated Bryce Kirtz as the second wideout commit of the class.
At 6-foot-4, Dennis has tremendous size for the position, breaking with Northwestern’s recent trend of adding smaller, quicker receivers (which was a break from several years ago when Northwestern had a bunch of taller receivers). His frame allows him to high point the football and come down with catches in traffic. He’s also a willing blocker, which is an important skill in Mick McCall’s spread offense.
