Another piece of Northwestern’s 2018-19 non-conference puzzle has been revealed. Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported that the Wildcats will face Fresno State in the John Wooden Legacy tournament. The matchup is scheduled for Nov. 22.

Fresno State finished 21-11 (11-7 Mountain West) in 2017-18, bowing out to San Diego State in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Conference Tournament. The Bulldogs finished 79th in KenPom.com’s rankings, six spots ahead of Northwestern.
A matchup with Miami, Utah, or Seton Hall would have provided a chance for Northwestern to get a solid power conference win, but Fresno State is no pushover, and Northwestern will get three chances at high-major wins if it can advance to the championship. Should Northwestern advance past Fresno State, they will likely play Miami in the semifinal of the tournament. The full bracket for the Wooden Legacy Tournament is below.
