When it comes to putting points on the board and just the general concept of offense, the Wildcats have not had a lot of success in 2019. In fact, based on the abysmal performances we’ve seen over the past month, they may be one of the worst offenses of all time, and they are certainly already in that conversation when only Power 5 teams are being examined.
Unsurprisingly, people around the college football landscape have started to notice. Some of them had funny (or just sad) things to say about the phenomenon! Without further ado, let’s open that little blue app.
Northwestern has not exactly kept it close recently

A -100 point differential over only 180 minutes of action (down at -127 for the year) isn’t what you want!
Northwestern is having some difficulty scoring, you may have heard
This is the lowest scoring three game stretch for Northwestern Football since 10/17 - 10/31 1981. Historically bad season continues... #B1GCats #GoCats #IDontCare @WildcatReport @insidenu @ellabrockway @TeddyGreenstein

Today is Nov 2. Northwestern hasn’t scored a touchdown since Oct 5.

Northwestern will go at least 34 days — and 44 offensive drives — without a touchdown (four games and counting).
— Bryan Fischer (@BryanDFischer) November 3, 2019
How bad is Northwestern’s offense? The Wildcats have 8 touchdowns this season.
— Dustin Schutte (@SchutteCFB) November 3, 2019
Rutgers has 15.
Northwestern, down 24-3 at the half to Indiana, ran 33 plays in the first half. They’re now at 199 plays since their last offensive TD, by my count. @edsbs @insidenu @WNURSports #B1GCats

If you didn’t know, now you know!
Ok, Northwestern is having a lot of difficulty scoring
Thread: We currently average 9.8 ppg (6.9 minus UNLV). No team has averaged 9.8 in a season since FIU and Miami, OH in 2013. No team has averaged less than 9 (which is in play) since ULM averaged 8.7 in 2000. The year before that South Carolina went 0-11 and averaged 7.9.
— West Lot Pirates (@westlotpirates) November 3, 2019
That seems pretty bad, in my opinion.
Some stuff that I tweeted while writing this article because nobody mentioned it
After their 59 play, 199 yard performance against Indiana, Northwestern has now put up 3.5 yards per play or below in 6 out of their 8 games this year
— Noah Coffman (@coffman_noah) November 3, 2019
The Wildcats remain squarely at 4.1 yards per pass attempt after Saturday, which, as a reminder, would make them not only by far the worst passing attack of 2019 by that metric, but the second-worst since 2003 behind only 2008 Army, a triple-option team
— Noah Coffman (@coffman_noah) November 3, 2019
Eight games into the season, Charlie Kuhbander still has more made field goals (eight) than he has PATs after Northwestern touchdowns (six)....and combined, that accounts for fewer than half of Indiana kicker Logan Justus' made extra points (33)
— Noah Coffman (@coffman_noah) November 3, 2019
Ok, last one for the night: Northwestern not only has fewer passing TDs than 11 FBS teams have defensive scores, but both of the Wildcats' TDs through the air have gone to a player, in JJ Jefferson, who didn't even suit up on Saturday
— Noah Coffman (@coffman_noah) November 3, 2019
Gotta be honest, I think people are focusing too much on the “lack of touchdowns and points” thing when talking about NU’s offensive deficiencies. There’s lots of other material to discuss here!
People are, unfortunately, starting to notice
Smaller story, but Northwestern has gone from reaching the Big Ten championship game last year to fielding possibly its worst team in 20 years.

Now 1-6. Scored a combined 13 points in three October games.
since that press conference, Northwestern has played four times.
— BUM CHILLUPS (@edsbs) October 29, 2019
In those four games, the offense has scored fewer points with each successive week: 15 against Wisconsin, 10 against Nebraska, 3 in the Ohio State game, and zero against Iowa last week

When the national media pays attention to Northwestern’s offense, it never seems to be for a positive reason!
As always, gotta finish with BYCTOM

— JIM BOYLEN ROAD DOG MENTALITY (@BYCTOM) November 3, 2019
To conclude, Northwestern’s offense is not good. Like, at all. There are even lots and lots of stats to prove it.
Anyways, enjoy the rest of your Sunday!
