Northwestern football’s 2019 season opener against Stanford will kick off at 3:00 CST and be broadcast on FOX, according to a tweet sent out by the program Thursday morning. The partnership between the Wildcats and the network flourished last year, with FOX choosing to broadcast Northwestern’s games against Michigan, Wisconsin, and Iowa (along with the conference championship) on their main network.
The program also announced that NU’s mid-season Friday night matchup against Ohio State will (somewhat surprisingly) be aired on Fox Sports 1 at 7:30. One might have expected the primetime rematch of the 2018 Big Ten Championship Game to be picked up by ABC/ESPN or perhaps, like the season opener and last season’s aforementioned marquee matchups, by the main FOX channel.
Northwestern played just one game last year that was carried by FS1: their 29-19 win over Michigan State in East Lansing. The team’s home opener against UNLV on September 14 will take place at 2:30 CST on Big Ten Network.
Kickoff times for the October games against Iowa and Nebraska were also announced, although no TV designations were given for those two conference matchups, which will bookend the all-important tilt with the Buckeyes.
The 2019 meeting between Stanford and Northwestern will be the eighth matchup of the all-time series and first since Northwestern’s home upset over Stanford in 2015. Aside from last year’s Thursday night primetime opener at Purdue, the Wildcats have played every season opener since 2013 at Cal in an afternoon time slot.
