Joe Gaziano sacks Brian Lewerke for the fourth straight year

It’s a pretty incredible stat.

NCAA Football: Northwestern at Michigan State Mike Carter-USA TODAY Sports

With 45 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Joe Gaziano sacked Brian Lewerke for a loss of six yards. The play ended up being an innocuous one, as Michigan State converted two long third downs on ensuing plays to extend its lead to 14-3, but it continued an impressive streak for Northwestern’s senior leader.

Gaziano has now sacked the MSU veteran in four consecutive contests. When you really stop to think about it, that number is remarkable.

The highlight of the bunch, of course, has to be Gaz’s strip sack for a safety in 2016, his redshirt freshman season.

Northwestern will be looking for Gaziano to string some more plays together defensively, as they currently trail Sparty 14-3 at the half.
