Northwestern stays ranked in AP poll, drops one spot to No. 23

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: FEB 07 Women’s Northwestern at Maryland

After Sunday afternoon’s road defeat to the No. 20 (now No. 17) Maryland Terrapins, Northwestern women’s basketball dropped one slot from No. 22 to No. 23 in this week’s AP Poll released Monday.

Joe McKeown’s team will now spend its second week in the Top 25 after breaking into the polls for the first time since the 2015-2016 season last week. At 17-3 and 7-2 in conference play, the ‘Cats are currently tied for second in the Big Ten with Maryland. First place Iowa rose a single spot from No. 19 to No. 18 while Indiana dropped three spots to No. 20 after its loss to Maryland.

The ‘Cats are currently projected as a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament and take on Michigan at home on Thursday before traveling to Happy Valley for a contest against Penn State on Sunday.
