Coming off its first win after twelve consecutive losses, Northwestern will face off in Madison against the Wisconsin Badgers in a Wednesday night matchup. While the Badgers are heavy favorites, the Wildcats have found success in Madison under Chris Collins. NU has won two of its last three games at the Kohl Center.
After beating the Cornhuskers on Sunday afternoon, the Wildcats cannot play themselves into a higher seed with a win tonight. NU is locked in at the No. 13 seed for the Big Ten tournament unless Nebraska can beat Michigan or Minnesota while Northwestern loses one of its two remaining games. Still, as highlighted a few days ago in this article, Northwestern’s remaining games still hold value in order to build momentum for the offseason.
Meanwhile, the Badgers are one of the hottest teams in the country right now. With six consecutive wins, Wisconsin is now ranked No. 24 in the AP poll, and Greg Gard has all of a sudden entered his name into the discussion for Big Ten Coach of the Year. If the Badgers win tonight, they’ll move into a tie for first place atop the conference standings with only a trip to Bloomington remaining on the regular season slate.
