Florida Atlantic tight end John Raine announced his decision to transfer to Northwestern for his final year of eligibility, becoming the third grad transfer on the Wildcats’ 2020 roster alongside quarterback Peyton Ramsey and punter Derek Adams.

After announcing his decision to enter the transfer portal on April 3, Raine chose Northwestern promptly over a handful of schools including USF and Arkansas — both of whose current offensive coordinators served as former FAU offensive coordinators.

In his senior season at FAU, Raine recorded 38 catches for 343 yards and six touchdowns. His performance was a significant improvement from his prior three years in which he amassed just 18 receptions for a total 187 yards and one touchdown.

Additionally, Raine earned C-USA honorable mention and helped his team earn its second Conference USA championship since joining the conference in 2013. In the Owls’ Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl victory this past season, Raine added a crucial seven receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown.

The Miami native will join a depleted tight end/super back group and potentially play a significant role for the ‘Cats this season.
