Wildcats pick up three-star running back Anthony Tyus III

Anthony Tyus III becomes the eleventh member of Northwestern’s class of 2021.

The news keeps coming! Three-star running back Anthony Tyus III announced his commitment to Northwestern on Thursday via Twitter.

The Michigan native chose the ‘Cats over the likes of Bowling Green, Ball State, Central Michigan, Iowa State and Cincinnati. At 6-foot-1 and 207 pounds, Tyus ranks as the No. 56 running back in the nation and No. 20 player in the state of Michigan, according to 247sports.

He was named to Michigan’s all-state team during his junior season, rushing for 1,861 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also garnered some praise on the other side of his ball, playing defensive back for Portage Northern his sophomore season, according to

Tyus told, “They [Northwestern] were the school that really celebrated me, not only the running back coach, but the head coach and the offensive coordinator. They really seemed to want me to go there.”

According to, Tyus’s primary recruiter was running backs coach and recruiting coordinator Louis Ayeni, who has helped the development of a strong tailback corps led by Isaiah Bowser.

Ultimately, despite the coronavirus pandemic halting in-person recruiting and visits, Northwestern football has managed to pick up most of its class during this time period.
