Northwestern women’s golf began its season with a dominant victory over Big Ten rival Ohio State at Abacoa Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida, over the weekend.
In head-to-head match play format, the Wildcats bested the Buckeyes 4-1-1. Northwestern’s upperclassmen provided a steady hand, with junior Kelly Su dispatching her opponent 8 and 6 (she led by eight holes with six holes left), while sophomore Irene Kim won 5 and 3 (five-hole lead with three holes left to play). Freshman Jennifer Cai earned her first college win with a 2-up victory.
The South Florida track challenged players with undulating greens but offered reprieve with generous fairways and gentle terrain. The Wildcats, whose 2019-20 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, look to take the momentum into their next event, the Heroes Ladies Intercollegiate in Sarasota, Florida, the weekend of February 7-9.
