Long time, no see: Northwestern’s uniform combo for bout with Iowa hasn’t been worn in five years

But it got plenty of rotation in the early 2010s.

On Thursday, Northwestern revealed the uniform combination it will wear for this Saturday’s game against the Iowa Hawkeyes via Twitter:

According to the research of Washington Post sports editor and NU alum Ella Brockway, the ‘Cats are 10-5 in the Under Armour era when wearing this combination of a purple jersey, purple helmet and black pants. However, this will be the first time since 2016 that the Wildcats have worn this particular combo, and the black face mask on the purple helmet hasn’t been worn with this uniform since NU’s win over Purdue in 2015. Brockway also noted that the uniforms were once a staple of Northwestern’s aesthetic, as the ‘Cats sported this combo five times each during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

Northwestern will take on Iowa at Ryan Field on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
