Northwestern men’s golf finished fifth at the Spartan Collegiate at Sea Island, Georgia, on Tuesday, marking another strong finish for the Wildcats. The stroke-play event featured the top five golfers on each of the 16 participating teams, whose scores were combined over three rounds to form the team leaderboard.
NU’s top finisher was junior David Nyfjall. The Swede finished the event at four-under-par, good for sixth place overall and six strokes behind the event’s winner, Mac McClear of Iowa. Nyfjall’s score tied Ohio State’s Maxwell Moldovan, the country’s sixth-ranked golfer.
Nyfjall wasn’t the only strong finisher on the team. Varun Chopra and Christopher Zhang both finished the tournament at one-over-par, tying them for a 23rd-place finish.
Iowa won the team event at 13-under-par and Notre Dame came in second at 12-under-par. The Wildcats finished four-under-par, tying both Ohio State and tournament host Michigan State, and besting other notable schools such as Indiana, Iowa State and Rutgers.
NU’s next event, the Goodwin in Palo Alto, California, takes place March 25-27.
