Here's the first specific Northwestern thing I've seen now that college athletes are allowed to profit off their name, image, and likeness. For the low, low price of $50, you can have Ryan Hilinski record a customized message for you. Whee!
In all seriousness, good for Hilinski. This is an easy way for a popular college athlete to make a little spending money. I imagine he'll start to see business pick up if he gets officially named the starter and plays decently well.
I wonder how this new landscape changes recruiting. I think this probably hurts Northwestern, as the opportunities here will be less than at programs that have larger fanbases and more media exposure. You might win more at Northwestern than Nebraska, but you'll make a lot more money off your name, image, and likeness at Nebraska (or Iowa, Illinois, etc).
