Welllllllllllp: Northwestern went from 5-0 to 5-2 really fast there, and both performances were pretty hideous.
I said in the preview that I thought this was a losable game, but I really didn't expect it to happen. NU couldn't get anything going offensively and only mustered 44 points in a loss to UIC. It doesn't help that they only went 10-for-20 from the line, including several missed front ends. Drew Crawford had 18, and the rest of the team only managed 26 points, including three - three - in the last 14 minutes of game time, all of which came on Reggie Hearn free throws. (He also missed three.) Not to mention 16 turnovers and no made field goals in the final four minutes.
I'm not big on overreacting, but it's really hard to imagine the Northwestern team that's showed up the past two games making the NCAA Tournament. Not only does this put a pretty bad loss on the schedule, but the team just doesn't look very good. There's not much going when Crawford can't score and the defense probably won't hold up against Big Ten squads.
Not fun. Not fun at all.
